Bamboo, Pottery, Glass, Pump or Electronic? How to Choose Your Cupping Cups
Every type of cup creates the same basic effect: gentle suction that lifts the skin and muscle. The right one for you depends on who’s doing the cupping, where, and what kind of experience you want.

Choose by situation
“I’m new and want to cup at home.” Start with a piston pump set. It’s flame-free, inexpensive and lets you control strength one squeeze at a time.
“I want to treat my own back without help.” An electronic cup with a remote or a long-handled pump is the easiest way to reach it.
“I love warmth.” An electronic cup with heat for home, or ceramic and moxibustion jars in a practitioner’s hands.
“I’m a massage therapist adding cupping.” Pump cups for speed, plus a thick glass set for gliding once you’ve trained in fire cupping.
“I’m an acupuncturist or TCM practitioner.” A full traditional kit: glass for everyday fire cupping, bamboo for herbal cupping, and ceramic for its warmth and tradition.
“I want something beautiful for my practice.” Bamboo and hand-glazed ceramic sets bring a natural, traditional feel to any treatment room.
Sizes matter too
Whatever material you choose, a set with several sizes is worth it. Large cups suit the back and thighs, medium cups the shoulders and hips, and small cups the arms, calves and around joints.
